Understanding Knee Pain

The knee acts as a hinge joint, supported by strong connective tissues that allow movement primarily forward and backward, with limited side-to-side motion. Injuries from sports or accidents that apply lateral force can tear ligaments or muscles. However, most knee pain arises from ongoing issues like arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis, repetitive stress injuries, or uneven strain caused by an abnormal stance or walking pattern—often linked to spinal misalignment. Extra body weight increases the pressure on knee joints, accelerating wear and discomfort.

Foot Pain and Its Causes

The foot is made up of numerous bones and joints, along with a complex network of soft tissues that help adjust your balance during movement. Conditions like obesity, improper footwear, misalignment, and overuse can lead to chronic foot pain such as plantar fasciitis. Similar to knees, spinal misalignment can disrupt your body’s kinetic chain, causing strain in your feet. Conversely, foot imbalances can affect the alignment of your knees, hips, and lower back.

Care Can Restore Lower-Body Balance

At RNS Physical Therapy, our caring team first identifies whether your pain originates from the knee or foot. Depending on the source, you might benefit from targeted extremity adjustments. Custom orthotics can help correct abnormal foot arches to distribute weight evenly. If spinal misalignment is the root cause, adjustments to the lower back may be necessary. We also guide you through exercises to strengthen your posture and maintain joint flexibility.

Many patients tell us how these hands-on treatments help them regain comfort and mobility.
